The Voices of Victory Choir from Salem Baptist Church will perform at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on September 8. The concert will be at 4 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall.
The Voices of Victory choir is one of five choirs at Salem Baptist Church, the largest Baptist church in the state of Nebraska. They have traveled throughout the United States sharing the gospel through praise, hymns and spiritual songs. The choir began with 12 singers in 1951 and reached critical acclaim in the 1970s under the director of Doretha Wade. The choir has recorded three albums and received a 1979 Grammy Award nomination.
There are now 105 voices in the Voices of Victory choir, which frequently performs with the Omaha Symphony Orchestra, numerous local choirs and many nationally-known gospel artists. In 1999 they received the Nebraska Arts Council Heritage Award for their influence as a cultural presence within the state and an ambassador for Nebraska outside the state.
