The third annual Student Research Day at the University of Nebraska at Kearney will take place Monday, April 23, from noon to 5 p.m. in the UNK Health and Sports Center.
The Student Research Day will feature research projects and conferences on language and literature. The day will begin with poster presentations of student research projects in various fields of study. Those posters will then be judged and will be open to the public for viewing in the Health and Sports Center.
Also taking place during the day will be the Student Conference on Language and Literature from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the Jennings Room of the Calvin T. Ryan Library. There will be 25 undergraduate students presenting papers on topics from Beowulf to World War I poetry to children’s literature; these papers were written for English classes. Two concurrent sessions are scheduled for the Jennings Room that will run at 9:05, 10:10, 11:15, 12:20, 1:25, ending at 2:30. Two $50 awards will be presented to the outstanding papers in literary criticism and in language/composition studies during the SRD award ceremony. Also scheduled is a reading for creative writing submissions approved by Charles Fort. The Creative Writing program will also present awards.
“The purpose of the Student Research Day is to highlight and honor the student research and the faculty’s involvement with creative activities that take place on campus,” said Ken Nikels, dean of graduate studies.
Over 200 students plan to take part in the Student Research Day with over 140 research projects being presented. The presentation is open to the public, free of charge.
Student Research Day is sponsored by Pepsi, who will be providing soft drinks throughout the day.
