Performance appraisals and review solutions are the focus of a one-day seminar for managers and supervisors being held Wed., March 21, at College Park in Grand Island.
“Participants will learn the dynamics involved in formulating performance appraisals and reviews, and presenting the results to their employees,” said Dr. William Jurma, seminar presenter. Key communication skills involved in the performance review process are emphasized.
Dr. Jurma, a communications professor and the associate dean for the University of Nebraska at Kearney College of Fine Arts and Humanities, has done consulting for Nations Bank, Tandy, Dawson Public Power District, Heritage Bank Group, Chief Industries and Pier 1 Imports. He was formerly on faculty at Texas Christian University.
In the seminars, participants will learn how to identify common problems with performance appraisals and reviews and determine the best techniques to solve them. In addition, they will learn to recognize the importance of climate and culture, meet the challenges associated with delivering good news and bad news, and present employees with clearly defined suggestions and directives.
Dr. Jurma, whose teaching and research focus on leadership and organizational communications, has published “Group Discussion and Decision-Making” and its accompanying videotape.
The seminar, one in a series being offered through the Learning Edge, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost of the seminar, which includes lunch, is $109, or only $99 for participants registered by March 14.
