The University of Nebraska at Kearney Department of Music and Performing Arts theater will perform “In the Gloaming” October 8-11 at 7:30 p.m. and October 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the Miriam Drake Theatre.

In the Gloaming tells the emotionally gripping tale of the relationship between a mother and her dying son. When a young man, suffering from AIDS, returns to his family home to die. Years of pent- up tensions, resentments, and insecurities explode as each member of the family tries to come to terms with the impending loss. In the midst of it all, the magic of the gloaming, the purple twilight of the day, brings mother and son to an emotional honesty and sense of peace they never thought possible.

Since In the Gloaming deals with sometimes difficult subject matter to approach, the audience is encouraged to remain in the theatre for a talk back session immediately following each performance. Guest speakers will join the cast, crew, director, and designers for an open dialogue and the issues addressed in the play, and the process of bringing this production to life.

The UNK Theatre program is also thrilled to welcome award winning playwright and screenwriter, Will Scheffer, to UNK for the run of this production. Mr. Scheffer will join the panel of guest speakers following the performances on October 8, 9, 10, and 11. Mr. Scheffer will also discuss one of his most recent film projects, Easter (filmed in Nebraska), during a public presentation at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, in the Miriam Drake Theatre.

Tickets for the performances are $7 for adults. Discounts are available for students, seniors and UNK faculty and staff. Tickets can be reserved by calling the UNK Box Office at (308) 865-8417, or e-mail to boxoffice@unk.edu. Office hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12:00-4:00 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 11:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m.; and one hour prior to each performance.
