The University of Nebraska at Kearney will host the annual Midwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (MACURH) conference Nov. 12-14.
More than 600 students are expected to attend from the region, which includes Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and Manitoba, Canada. Each year, a member school hosts the annual conference where students from colleges and universities across the region attend programming and leadership sessions.
The conference theme is “Life is a Game, Come Play at MACURH,” according to Elizabeth Obermeier of Aurora, MACURH 2004 conference chair. MACURH is a regional affiliate of the National Association of College and University Residence Halls.
“Preparations are being made with local business to pull together a great conference,” she said.
Opening conference ceremonies will be from 7-9 p.m. Hypnotist Jim Wand will perform from 9-10 p.m. An advisers’ social begins at 10 p.m. in the UNK Nebraskan Student Union Oak Room. A presidents’ social will also be held at 10 p.m. in the UNK Nebraskan Student Union Cedar Room. The hospitality room and bid reading room will both open at 9:30 p.m. at the Ramada Inn. Gail Sims-Aubert, UNK area coordinator for Residential and Greek Life, is a conference adviser. Members of the 2004 conference staff, listed alphabetically by hometown, include:

Last spring, UNK students traveled to the Webster Conference Center in Salina, Kan., to bid for this year’s conference. Five other schools also bid on the conference, which set a national record for the most schools bidding for a single conference. Other schools that bid included Creighton University in Omaha, Drake University in Des Moines, Minnesota State University Moorhead, the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo.
