Learning which job search expenses are deductible is the subject of a Career Development Workshop set for 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at the Kearney Public Library.

The workshop, titled Money & Tax Tips for Job Seekers, is cosponsored by the University of Nebraska at Kearney and the Kearney Public Library.

“These workshops are held in a great place, because the Kearney Public Library has so many resources for job seekers,” said Michelle Fleig-Palmer. Fleig-Palmer is the Dual Career Program director at UNK.

Pat Anderson from the Buffalo County Cooperative Extension and Cathy Ebmeier from McDermott & Miller will will be the guest speakers. They will provide tips to help a job seeker stay afloat financially. They note that the workshop will be divided into two parts.

“In the first part, you will learn techniques for successfully budgeting your money,” Anderson said.

“The second part will be a discussion of expenses that job seekers can deduct when calculating income tax,” Ebmeier added.

There will be time during the workshop for questions related to résumés, cover letters, etc. In addition, the library has books available for further guidance.
Money & Tax Tips for Job Seekersis one in a series of career development workshops being held the second Monday of each month. The program is free and open to the public.
