The 2004 Nebraska Book Festival, set for Sept. 17-18 on the UNK campus, offers Nebraskans a reading adventure in conjunction with the 13th annual gathering.
As a part of the festival, the NBF Committee of Kearney is promoting a One Book/One Community reading adventure. According to NBF director Dr. Susanne Bloomfield, a highlight of the festival will be a series of activities centered on the featured book, A Different Plain: Contemporary Nebraska Fiction Writers.
“The book is an impressive collection of short stories by writers who have all published books of fiction and who have lived in Nebraska,” Dr. Bloomfield said. The book was edited by Ladette Randolph, with an introduction by Mary Pipher.
“Four sessions throughout the day on Saturday (Sept. 18) will offer readers opportunities to meet many of the authors, hear them read, and ask them questions about writing or their stories,” she said. In addition, Ron Block, who is one of the featured authors, will give the keynote address at the Saturday luncheon.
The NBF Committee is creating a discussion guide to accompany the reading. Libraries and book clubs interested in participating can contact Dr. Bloomfield, UNK professor of English, at 308.865.8867 or Jeanne Saathoff at the Kearney Public Library.
