Singer/songwriter Alexis Antes will perform Friday, Nov. 4, from 7 – 9 p.m. in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Nebraskan Student Union Atrium.
Antes, the second performer of the Mochas and Music Coffeehouse series, taught herself guitar at the age of 12. At 18, she was a founding member of the group Odd Girl Out, one of the more popular area bands of the 90’s. After the band split, Antes began writing, performing and touring as a solo artist.
As a result, Antes has shared the stage with such artists as Jewel, Paula Cole, Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, James Taylor, Blessid Union of Souls and Melissa Etheridge. She was also invited to play Lilith Fair at Blossom Music Center in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1998.
Antes, who lives in Cleveland, Ohio, released Stronger, her debut CD, in 1998 and released All Come Down in 2003.
“Listeners are treated to a lone voice in the wilderness singing introspective, soul-searching ballads about disillusionment, heartache and growth,” wrote Cleveland SceneMagazine.
This coffeehouse presentation is serving as a kick-off to the UNK Family Day weekend.
“We encourage students, their families and members of the community to come out and listen to some great music while enjoying their favorite drink from Starbucks,” said Jami Schaffnitt, coordinator of UNK student activities.
The event is free and open to the public.
