$mart Money Week Coming Up Nov. 7-11 in Kearney

Mary Rittenhouse
Center for Economic Education director, 308.865.8707

Kearney area residents of all ages can benefit from $martMoney Week presentations, Monday – Friday (Nov. 7-11), sponsored by the Center for Economic Education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

More than 50 free seminars and workshops discussing finances will be offered by area businesses and organizations.   “Learn to stretch your money, because money doesn’t come with instructions,” is the theme of the series of presentations, which will take place at numerous locations around Kearney as well as on the UNK campus.

With most of the events free and open to the public, Mary Rittenhouse, director of the UNK Center for Economic Education and a lecturer in the Department of Economics, said that she hopes to draw area residents who truly can use help with their finances.

Kearney is one of only four communities in the nation to offer a series of this type of finance-centered seminars and workshops. The idea started in Chicago with Money $mart Week in 2002, and Kearney has joined with Detroit and one other city in the state of New York to host such a series.

A complete list of the sessions offered can be found at the UNK Center for Economic Education Web site http://www.unk.edu/acad/cee/ or by contacting Mary Rittenhouse at 308.865.8707.
