Families of students at the University of Nebraska at Kearney will be on the UNK campus for a series of Family Day 2005 events on Saturday, Nov. 5.
Registration in the Atrium of the Nebraskan Student Union will be from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Activities begin at 9:15 a.m. with three educational workshops. The workshops, and workshop locations, include: “Exploring the Sky,” Bruner Hall of Science Planetarium; “Technology Today,” Nebraskan Student Union Computer Lab; and “Paying for Education,” Nebraskan Student Union Oak Room. Also beginning at 9:15 a.m. is a self-guided tour of senior student art displays in the Fine Arts Building Walker Art Gallery.
A campus tour will be given from 9:30-10:30 a.m. To reserve a place on the tour, contact the Admissions Office at (308)-865-8526.
A second series of educational workshops will run from 10-10:30 a.m. Workshops, and workshop locations, include “Chemistry Spectacular,” Bruner Hall of Science Mary Morse Lecture Hall; “Exploring the Sky,” Bruner Hall of Science Planetarium; “Technology Today,” Nebraska Student Union Computer Lab; and “Diplomas and Debt,” Nebraskan Student Union Oak Room.
Students and their families are invited to join members of the faculty and administration for coffee and conversation from 10:30-11 a.m. Receptions are being hosted by each of the colleges. The receptions and locations include: College of Business and Technology, Nebraskan Student Union Sandhills Room; College of Education, Nebraskan Student Union Room 142; College of Fine Arts and Humanities,
Nebraskan Student Union Second Floor Balcony; College of Natural and Social Sciences, Nebraskan Student Union Cedar Room; College of Nursing, Nebraskan Student Union 142A; and Deciding Students, Nebraskan Student Union Fireplace Lounge.
A luncheon with the UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen will take place beginning at 11:15 a.m. in the Nebraskan Student Union Ponderosa Room. Advance tickets are recommended and available using the UNK Family Day registration form. Forms can be picked up at the Nebraskan Student Union Information Desk. Tickets are $5 for parents, $2 for children 12 and under, $2 for UNK students with a 2005 Campus Meal Plan, and $5 for UNK students without a 2005 Campus Meal Plan.
A Pre-game Spectacular will be presented at 12:50 p.m. on Foster Field by members of the UNK Pride of the Plains Marching Band under the direction of Dr. Neal Schnoor. The UNK vs. Mesa State football game begins at 1 p.m. at Foster Field.
“Families are welcome to join their students for dinner from 4-7 p.m. in the Commons Dining Room at the Nebraskan Student Union,” said Jami Schaffnitt, coordinator of University/Student Activities. Guests will pay at the door.
Saturday evening, the UNK volleyball team will compete against Colorado Mines beginning at 7 o’clock at the Health and Sports Center. Call (308)-865-8337 for advance tickets. Tickets will also be available at the door.
