Dr. Kim Carlson
Associate professor of Biology, 308.865.1554
For the first time in 15 years, the University of Nebraska at Kearney Alpha Phi Omega (APO) national service fraternity will host the statewide conference, set for April 1-3, on the UNK campus.
The statewide conference includes students from APO chapters at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, Creighton University, Concordia University and UNK.
As a service project for the conference, the chapters will collect nonperishable food items, blankets and other household supplies, and then prepare bags of these items for Kearney area children who are in the custody of Health and Human Services and the Salvation Army, according to Dr. Kimberly Carlson, assistant professor of biology and APO adviser. These items will be collected at each chapter’s school and then packaged at the conference.
Anyone wishing to donate to the project can drop their donations at Dr. Carlson’s office in Burner Hall of Science, Room. 212C.
Also, individuals wishing to donate to the project can call Dr. Carlson at 308.865.1554 and an APO member will pick up the donation.
“Each school is competing against one another,” Dr. Carlson said. “Point values will be assigned to each item, and the chapter with the most points wins, although the winning school will not receive a tangible award.
“UNK only has the opportunity to host the conference every 10 years,” Dr. Carlson said.
