The University of Nebraska at Kearney is requiring all students, faculty and staff to use Two-Factor Authentication to access web-based university services such as Canvas, Box, MyBlue and email.
Meant to secure personal identity and data, all people using university web services must register for Two-Factor Authentication by March 23 or they will lose access to web-based services.
Enrollment is currently available at trueyou.nebraska.edu.
Why is this being done?
“Cyberattacks targeting our faculty, staff and students are an ongoing threat, and we’ve had a significant number of victims within our university community,” said Andrea Childress, UNK chief information officer for IT Services.
“In 2019, 81% of cyberattacks were executed by taking advantage of weak or stolen passwords,” she added. “Two-Factor Authentication is the best way to mitigate attacks.”
Those not enrolled in 2FA can visit https://its.nebraska.edu/two-factor for information and tutorials.
Users can choose the authentication method most convenient for them on the device of their choice.
After entering credentials, a second factor of authentication is sent to users by whichever method they chose during Two-Factor enrollment.
After approving the second factor, users will be logged in.
