MERRY TUBA CHRISTMAS SET FOR SATURDAY, DEC. 3, IN KEARNEY AND HOLDREGE

“Merry Tuba Christmas,” a low brass concert featuring 60-70 euphoniums and tuba players of all ages from throughout the region, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, in Kearney and Holdrege.

The concerts, which are free and open to the public, will feature Christmas carols performed on baritones, euphoniums and tubas. Participation is open to anyone who plays baritone, tuba or euphonium. There is a registration fee of $5 for performers.

In Kearney, the concert will begin at noon in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Fine Arts Recital Hall. Participants will register
beginning at 9 a.m., warm up at 9:30 a.m., and rehearsal will then take place at 10 a.m.

In Holdrege, the performance will take place at 5 p.m. at The Tassel, which is located at 1324 Tilden St. There, registration will begin at 2:30 p.m. followed by warm-up at 3 p.m. Rehearsal will take place at 3:30 p.m.

Directing the concerts will be UNK music faculty Dr. Seth Fletcher, who is director of low brass, and guest conductor Dr. Duane Bierman, who is the UNK director of bands.

The performances will each last about an hour and will also include a sing-along with lyrics provided. Carol books, hats, scarves and CDs will be available for purchase at the events. Donations towards the High Plains Chapter of ITEA, UNK’s student chapter of the International Tuba-Euphonium Association, will also be accepted.

Hot chocolate, coffee and cookies will be available during registration hours and after the performances.
