UNK-The University of Nebraska at Kearney has announced that Galen Hadley is stepping down from his position as dean of the College of Business and Technology. This will take effect June 30, 2001 when he assumes the position of professor of accounting. The university will form a search committee in the near future to seek a replacement.
Chancellor Gladys Styles Johnston said Hadley has made a significant impact on the organization of the college and on programs offered to graduate and undergraduate students.
“Galen’s colleagues, both in the college and across the university, will long remember his many lasting contributions,” said Chancellor Johnston. “Galen gave constant support and sound guidance to the business departments in reorganizing their programs to make them eligible for candidacy for AACSB accreditation,” she said. “Galen also encouraged research and scholarly activities. During his tenure as dean, the scholarly publication of his faculty increased significantly.”
James Roark, senior vice chancellor for academic affairs, commented, “Galen’s impact extended well beyond his college. Galen was a leader among leaders. His contributions will be missed and difficult to replace. I know I will miss his counsel.”
Hadley said he was looking forward to returning to the classroom and finishing his career in higher education as a teacher.
Hadley was named dean of the College of Business and Technology on August 1, 1991. Prior to that position, he served at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion as professor of accounting, interim dean of the School of Business, interim president, vice president for academic affairs, professor of accounting, vice president for administration and university relations, and director of business graduate programs.
“As the senior dean for UNK, Galen brought his keen insights to the administrative governance of our campus,” said Dr. Johnston. “The entire university respected and valued his opinions and found inspiration in his tireless devotion to the advancement of both his college and the university.”
Hadley received his PhD from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and his MBA from the University of Colorado. Before entering higher education, he worked for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY, and Denver, CO.
Hadley is involved in many community organizations including the board of directors for the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce and he serves as treasurer of the board of directors for Good Samaritan Health Systems.
Hadley’s wife, Marilyn, is dean of the College of Education at UNK.
