UNK Homecoming Finalists

UNK-The University of Nebraska at Kearney has announced the 2000 Homecoming finalist.

Ten final candidates were chosen and are sponsored by an organization to which he or she belongs.

The royalty will be crowned following the Lip Sync and Spirit Competition at 7 p.m. at Cushing Coliseum. The king and queen will be crowned by 1999 royalty, Andy Stewart and Jennifer Liakos and will be assisted by Student Activities Council President David Nemechek.

Royalty finalists are listed below alphabetically by hometown. Columbus: Brieanne Thomas, daughter of Rick and Kathy Thomas, is the Chi Omega sorority candidate. Brieanne is involved at UNK as Vice-President of the student body, Student Advisor, and a Student Undergraduate Representative. She is also the New Member Educator for the Chi Omega Sorority and has previously served many other offices in the organization.

Geneva: Brett Wetton, the son of Charlie and Sharon Wetton, is the candidate for Centennial Towers West. He is involved at UNK through the Centennial Towers West Hall Council President, Student Senate Cabinet Member, FCA, UNK Football Bible Study, NRHH Student of the Month, Bryant Elementary Host Mentor, SAC Volunteer, The Herd and the UNK Football and Track Teams. His athletic honors include 2000 UNK Football Co-Captain, NCAA 1st Team Track All-American, and Athletic Director’s Blue-Gold Honor Roll.

Indianola: Chara Howard, the daughter of Jim Howard and Connie Davidson, is the candidate for Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She is involved as a Chancellor’s Student Ambassador, a member of Alpha Omicron Pi, and Christian Student Fellowship. Chara is a social work major.

Kearney: Kami Graves, the daughter of Allen and Althea Graves, is the Randall/Conrad Hall Council candidate. She is involved at UNK as a Resident Assistant in Randall Hall. Kami is also involved in UNK music, theatre and dance as a member of the Nebraskats show choir and Delta Omicron music fraternity. Omaha: Chris Lyons, the son of Craig and Cathy Lyons, is the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity candidate. Chris is involved at UNK through Student Diplomats, Industrial Distribution Organization, Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Order of Omega President, Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and Epsilon Pi Tau Honor Society. He was chosen as the Pi Kappa Alpha 2000 Brother of the Year.

Paxton: Heidi Lammers, the daughter of Mark and Shelley Lammers, is the candidate for Stout Hall. She is involved in the Honors Program, Student Court Chief Justice, UNK Navigators, Student Diplomat, Habitat for Humanity, Honors Student Advisory Board, Intramural Sports and Locke and Key Political Science Club. Heidi also was a member of the Summer Advising and Enrollment Staff. Minden: Mark Needham, the son of Dale and Gwen Needham, is the Student Activities Council candidate. He is involved at UNK through Student Activities Council, the Honors Program, Rager Williams Fellowship, and Christian Student Fellowship.

Frenchtown, N.J.: Justin Kirk, the son of Norman and Susan Kirk, is the candidate for the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He is involved as the Sigma Tau Gamma Chapter President and he serves on the Interfraternity Council Executive Board. Justin was a member of the Summer Orientation Staff and is on the Antelope Newspaper staff. He was also chosen as a finalist for the Ellsworth C. National Man of the Year.
