High Falutin’ and Underground Winds will present a concert at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Frank House on Saturday, April 9.
Under the direction of Franziska Nabb, UNK flute instructor, High Falutin’ was formed around five years ago. The group is comprised of community members interested in performing flute music.
“We started the group to give flute players of the area an avenue to get together and do something they love to do,” Nabb said. “Many have studied music and taught, or are still teaching music in the public schools.”
Among the pieces High Falutin’ will perform will be “Bird Song,” a piece for soprano voice and flute choir, where soprano and flutist Katherine Shinn of Kearney will use her voice training to bring variety to the program.
A second woodwind group, Underground Winds, will also perform. The ensemble, a woodwind quintet with members primarily from UNK faculty, will play a variety of music–from Bach to modern.
The program will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the UNK Frank House, which is located on the UNK West Campus. The program is free and open to the public; however, donations to the Frank House are always accepted.
The combined performances by High Falutin’ and Underground Winds is part of a series of Saturdays at the Frank House. For more information about Saturdays at the Frank House events, visit: www.unk.edu/offices/frankhouse.
