The Grandmas on the Go Band will perform folk music of the 1890s during the Saturdays at the Frank House program on Saturday, March 12, at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
According to Sarah Jones, Frank House director, Grandmas on the Go will be playing songs from the turn of the 20th century including “Where have you gone, Billy Boy?” and “Home on the Range.” In addition, to celebrate March, they will perform Irish tunes including “Danny Boy” and “Me & My Gal.”
“Some of these were popular songs when the Franks were alive,” Jones said. “‘Home on the Range’ was written in Kansas in the early 1870s.”
Members of the Grandmas on the Go Band include Betty Schirmer of Kenesaw playing the autoharp, Teressa Franken of Wood River playing the saw, and Jeanette Schmidt ofWood River playing hammer dulcimer and the mandolin.
The program will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the UNK Frank House, which is located on the UNK West Campus. The program is free and open to the public; however, donations to the Frank House are always accepted.
