More than 300 entrants have already registered for the seventh annual 5K Fun Run/Walk that will take place on Saturday, April 25, at 9 a.m. at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Foster Field.
Funds raised by the event provide an annual scholarship to a UNK student leader. Registration will continue from now until the event begins Saturday morning. Registration fees are $10 for students and $20 for non-students. Those interested may register online at www.unk.edu/fun5k, call Jami Schaffnitt at 308.865.8523 or sign up the day of the event.
“We’ll be taking entries right up to the start of the race,” said Jami Schaffnitt, coordinator of student activities. Prizes donated from local sponsors and a medal will be awarded for first, second and third place. Proceeds will go toward the Student Leader Scholarship Fund.
Last year, the 5K Fun Run/Walk had more than 300 race participants, 25 business sponsors and raised approximately $1,800.
This year the sponsors include ABC Seamless, Big O Tires, Foote Convenience Plaza, Kearney Orthopedic, Kearney Reality LLC, New West Orthopedic and Sports Rehabilitation, New West Sports Medicine, Platte Valley Medical Group, Quality Inn, Subway, Trails and Rails Museum, and USA Steak Buffet.
