Dr. Neal Schnoor
UNK director of Bands, 308.865.88631
Selected high school students who took part in the UNK Honor Band Festival last month will perform with the Wind Ensemble at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in a concert Thursday, Feb. 21, in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will open at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Dr. Neal Schnoor, UNK director of bands, with Bernstein’s “Overture to Candide.” Other selections on the program include “Gandalf The Wizard” and “Hobbits” from Johan Meij’s “The Lord of the Rings” Symphony 1, “Come Sweet Death” by Bach, and “Vesuvius” by Frank Ticheli.
The ensemble will be joined by the selected high school band students for a patriotic finale of “America, My Country ‘Tis of Thee.”
“We are excited to have these talented young musicians join with the Wind Ensemble for this special opportunity,” Dr. Schnoor said. “The national military bands traditionally provide this opportunity to high school students on their performance tours, and we thought it would be a great tradition to start at UNK.”
