UNK– The University of Nebraska at Kearney is one of 100 colleges and universities across the nation who will compete in the American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament.

The event will take place at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, Friday-Sunday, April 2-4. Five UNK students will represent the university as they compete in various categories, such as  Impromptu Speaking, Informative Speaking, Communication Analysis,
Dramatic Interpretation and Prose Interpretation.

UNK is one of six Nebraska college and universities participating in the event. The UNK team has qualified for the event every year since 2005.

“The American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament (AFA-NIET) qualification process is through what we call a ‘leg’ system,” said Rachelle Kamrath, UNK Forensics director. “A competitor must break to the final round in his or her prospective event a minimum of three times throughout the regular season. From these final rounds, a cumulative rank of eight or less must be achieved.” In 2009, the UNK forensics team finished #28.

“Last year, we qualified for 21 events–which was our strongest year yet,” Kamrath said. “Still, a team of all first-year and second-year competitors achieving 13 qualified events is an amazing accomplishment. We have talented and hard-working students.”
