REMINDER NOTE: The Trans-Nebraska Players will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 8, in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall. This unique group is composed of faculty from three Nebraska campuses.
UNK- The Trans-Nebraska Players, a new ensemble composed of music faculty members from three Nebraska campuses, will perform in four communities across Nebraska and Iowa March 7-10.
The five-member group includes Franziska Nabb, flute, and Dr. Noah Rogoff, cello, both music faculty members from the University of Nebraska at Kearney; Dr. David Neely, violin, and Dr. Clark Potter, viola, both from the University of Nebraska -Lincoln; and Dr. James Margetts, piano, Chadron State College. The tour will include performances in the Nebraska communities of Chadron, Kearney and Lincoln, and will conclude with two performances in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
“I proposed the venture,” Nabb said. “I have performed on different occasions with all of these gentlemen.”
Dr. Darleen Mitchell, also a member of the UNK faculty, composed a piece titled “As the Moon in a Bright Sky” specifically for this series of performances by the group.
“She composed the piece on our request as there are very, very few compositions for flute, string trio and piano,” Nabb said.
The Trans-Nebraska Players will open their performance series with a concert at Chicoine Atrium on the Chadron State College campus. The concert will take place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 7. On Monday, March 8, the ensemble will perform at 8:10 a.m. at Kearney High School.
The group will perform as part of the UNK Concerts-on-the-Platte spring series at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 8, in the UNK Fine Arts Recital Hall.
Their next performance will take place on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the Westbrook Recital Hall. That evening, the group will perform at 7:30 p.m. the Salem United Methodist Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The final performance in the series will be at 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, at Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Along with the original composition by Dr. Mitchell, the recital program will include pieces by J.S. Bach, Maz Reger, Mozart and David Diamond.
The performances are free and open to the public.
