UNK MUSIC BUSINESS MAJORS TO ATTEND NATIONAL CONVENTION

UNK- Six University of Nebraska at Kearney majors, accompanied by Dr. James Payne, professor of music, will attend the 2000 National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) International Music Show Feb. 3-6.

Amy Everhart, North Platte, Chris Chavanu, Kearney, Eric Jones, Madison, Luke Oswald, Lincoln, Niesja Nuttelmann, Lincoln, and Michaela Tompkins, Lincoln, were chosen to receive NAMM awards. The awards recognize junior or senior music business majors planning to enter the music products industry. The NAMM Award allows recipients to attend the NAMM show and receive a commemorative plaque.

The music show will be held at the Convention Center in Los Angeles and will feature over 1,100 exhibitors from the music products industry, 65,000 registrants and more than one million feet of show space.

NAMM award winners will spend time at the exhibits of numerous manufactures of musical instruments, sheet music, electronic equipment, sound and audio equipment, and software companies. They also attend various educational sessions and panel discussions on topics of interest to attendees in the retail music products business and some specifically for the music business student.

The students will be able to talk directly with the manufacturerÕs representatives, product creators and professional internationally known musicians who demonstrate some of the musical instruments and products.

UNKÕs department of music and performing arts has the only music business program in Nebraska that receives the NAMM Award. As such, UNK is one of only 36 universities or colleges in the United States recognized so recognized.
