Kearney Symphony Orchestra director, 308.865.8618
The Kearney Area Symphony Orchestra (KASO) will kick off a second century of performances with “Enter the Heroes” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Fine Arts Recital Hall.
Opening the concert will be a John Williams piece, “Summon the Heroes,” followed by Beethoven’s “The Creatures of Prometheus.” A second selection by Williams, “The Olympic Spirit,” will also be performed.
Michael Kamen’s “Requiem for a Soldier,” theme from Band of Brothers, will follow, accompanied by soloists Drs. Anne Foradori, Paul Smith and Andrew White, all members of the UNK Department of Music & Performing Arts faculty.
The program will close with Gioacchino Rossini’s “Overture to Willian Tell,” which served as theme music for the television series TheLone Ranger.
“KASO is one of just a handful of community orchestras in Nebraska,” said Dr. Ron Crocker, KASO director. “This performance is an opportunity to see UNK student musicians, faculty and Kearney community members come together to create a unique musical blend.”
