DR. JEANNE BUTLER APPOINTED TO THE NEBRASKA COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN

Dr. Jeanne Butler, director of the Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, has been appointed to the Nebraska Commission on the Status of Women.
    
She was appointed by Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman to represent the 6th District, which comprises the entire western half of the state. The appointment is for three years, after which a commissioner can be reappointed for a second term.
    
At UNK, Dr. Butler also serves as coordinator of assessment and is a member of the Women’s Studies Committee.
    
In the private sector, Dr. Butler has been involved in issues related to equality of women in the workplace at companies such as Ernst & Young, LLP, United Airlines Services Corp. and Catalina Consulting Group.  In her consulting practice, Dr. Butler has worked with U.S. and European companies to increase awareness of gender issues.
    
Dr. Butler said that she believes education, economic development and assistance programs for women are the key to achieving equity for all women in Nebraska.    

In addition to her doctorate in instructional systems design from the University of Southern California, Dr. Butler holds a master’s degree in education of the hearing impaired from Southern Methodist University in Dallas and a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Dr. Butler has taught in graduate programs for the University of Southern California, Boston University, the University of Colorado at Denver and UNK.
