President and CEO of Morey Management Group James E. Morey will give the spring commencement address for 613 University of Nebraska at Kearney graduates at 10 a.m. Friday, May 5, in the UNK Health and Sports Center.

In the 1980’s, Morey and his former partner Sandy Gallin developed Gallin Morey & Associates, a successful personal management company. Morey and Gallin headed the career management of such artists as Michael Jackson, Neil Diamond, Clint Black, Mariah Carey, Whoopi Goldberg, Cher, Joan Rivers, The Osmond Family, The Pointer Sisters, America, Kenny Chesney, Luther Vandross and numerous others.
In 1999, he formed a new company, Morey Management Group (MMG), based in Los Angeles and Nashville. MMG continues to represent prominent recording artists such as Vanessa Williams, Julio Iglesias, Macy Gray and Michael Feinstein, to name a few. MMG also houses an entertainment consulting division for such clients as the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
A 1966 KSC/UNK graduate, Minden-native Morey is a former KSC/UNK student body president who took part in many student activities, including Mortar Board, a prestigious honor society.
After graduation from KSC/UNK, Morey began developing and promoting big name entertainment on college campuses across the nation. He is known for being a pioneer in the college entertainment explosion that took place at that time. Today, he is one of the music industry’s foremost experts on concert touring and has broken box office records around the world with acts such as Michael Jackson’s Dangerous and HIStory Tours, Mariah Carey’s Butterfly world tour and numerous Neil Diamond tours.
Graduation ceremonies this spring will have a different look than the ceremonies had when Morey graduated. As part of the UNK Centennial observance, undergraduate students will wear blue robes and black mortar boards. Graduates receiving advanced degrees will wear the traditional black cap and gown.
The University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Gary Davis, will usher in the graduates with the traditional Pomp and Circumstance. Graduating senior, Kathryn Miller of Elgin, accompanied by Chisato Nii of Japan, will perform the National Anthem.
UNK Chancellor Douglas A. Kristensen will give the welcome followed by greetings from Kent Schroeder, who is a member of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.
A senior class reflection will be given by senior Erin Brosz of Grand Island, and special music will be provided by the University Wind Ensemble. The ensemble will perform Jubilant Celebration, which was composed by UNK professor of performing arts Dr. Ronald Crocker, to commemorate the centennial.
