Three studio art majors at the University of Nebraska at Kearney have their senior show on exhibit now through March 31 in the UNK Walker Art Gallery.
A graduation requirement, the senior show gives art majors an opportunity to display their work. In this exhibit, the students are displaying watercolor and acrylic paintings as well as cast iron and mixed media sculptures.
Students with work in the first exhibit are listed below:
Erika E. Jones , daughter of Greg and Elaina Jones of Gibbon, is exhibiting a collection of eight acrylic paintings. After graduation, Jones plans to illustrate children’s books with Thank You Baby, Inc. in Kearney.
Jones said, “I based the show on growing up as a little girl in America with a focus on the pressure she feels to be pretty and the affect it has on her later in life.”
Jeff Kenney is the son of John and Nancy Kava of Omaha and Bernard Kenney from Coshocton, Ohio. Kenney’s senior show includes cast iron works as well as mixed media. He will feature four works in the exhibit. Kenney’s future plans include attending graduate school to earn a degree in professional counseling and student affairs.
About his show, Kenney said, “The intention with this body of work is for the physical elements to capture the intended pose, posture and interaction of human forms.”
Angela Forero , the daughter of Omar Forero and Clara Ines Vasquez, of Bogota, Colombia, South America has chosen 10 works done with watercolor. Some titles include Final Inspiration, The Spiral and My Clouds. Upon completion of her degree at UNK, she plans to return to Colombia and earn a master’s degree in advertising.
Forero said, “I created a series of nonobjective paintings in which I, as the artist, use the painting experience as the medium to understand the behavior of watercolor combined with a resistance media, such as rubber cement and crayons.”
The next show in the series will be on display April 3 – 14.
