Department of Music and Performing Arts, 308-865-8118
The University of Nebraska at Kearney Department of Music and Performing Arts will present “As Thousands Cheer” Nov. 28 – Dec. 2 at Miriam Drake Theatre in the Fine Arts Building.
Directed by Paul Brodene Smith, UNK assistant professor of music and performing arts, “As Thousands Cheer” is a topical review comprised of a series of 15 musical numbers.
“We wanted to choose a show that would acquaint students with musical theatre,” Smith said. The production uses news topics from the 1930’s Depression era, and presents them in either musical or sketch format.
“It’s much like the Daily Show with John Stewart where it pokes fun at different news events,” Smith said.
The nine-member cast is an ensemble cast. Instead of having one specific role, each cast member has a different role in each number.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Nov. 28 – Dec. 1 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. Tickets can be purchased from the UNK Theatre Box Office: $10 for adults; $7 for UNK faculty and staff, seniors and non-UNK students; and $3 for UNK students with a valid ID. A $5 group rate is available for groups of 10 or more.
