Dylan Evans, the system administrator for Information Technology Services at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, has been named recipient of the UNK Technology Excellence Award.

“This award honors the commitment of employees in Information Technology Services who do many things behind the scenes to make technology services available, yet their efforts aren’t highly visible to the campus community,” said Deb Schroeder, UNK assistant vice chancellor for information technology.

Evans, who has been the system administrator for ITS since 2005, is responsible for the content management system behind the UNK website. He received $1,500. He is only the second person to receive the award. The first recipient was Kay Libbee, a UNK programmer/analyst.

When the UNK webmaster resigned a year ago, Evans shouldered additional responsibilities, including helping several departments
complete projects that had short timelines, assisting with website communications during campus emergencies and serving as the technical adviser to the search committee tasked with filling the webmaster position.

As one of the nominations noted: “He was unfailingly pleasant to work with, consistently exceeded expectations on projects and worked as a team player. He is the model of what the Information Technology Award stands for.”

In another nomination letter, a department chair wrote: “Dylan is a person who is willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish a mission even to the extent of ensuring his talent is accessible during his personal time when the need is critical. He does so without complaint. His service to the department allowed us to stay on track to develop our accreditation self-study. Without Dylan’s assistance we would have been severely behind schedule.”

Evans graduated from UNK in 2003 with a degree in computer information systems and a minor in telecommunications management.
