KEARNEY – The Reynolds Reading Series will feature award-winning poets Robyn Schiff and Nick Twemlow Oct.7 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Both writers will read work from their forthcoming books at the Walker Art Gallery at 6 p.m. Twemlow also will show a short film. The reading and screening will be followed by a reception. The event is free and open to the public.
On Oct. 8 there will be a question and answer session with the writers at 9:30 a.m. in Thomas Hall room 105.
Schiff and Twemlow are a married couple from Iowa City, Iowa. Schiff is the author of two collections of poetry, “Worth” and “Revolver.” Both were published in the Kuhl House Poets Series, University of Iowa Press. She recently had her work published in “Poetry, A Public Space” and the “New Yorker.”
She is the director of undergraduate writing at the University of Iowa, where she teaches poetry and is co-editor for Canarium Books.
Poetry critic Stephen Burt called Schiff’s poems “well made and uncommonly elaborate.” She has also been commended for the lyricism of her work.
Twemlow’s book, “Palm Trees,” received the 2013 Norma Farber First Book Award from the Poetry Society of America. He is senior editor at “The Iowa Review” and co-edits Canarium Books. He has had films shown at Tribeca, South by Southwest and Slamdance, among other film festivals. He also teaches poetry at Coe College in Iowa City, Iowa.
