UNK Theatre presenting ‘boom,’ a not-so-romantic doomsday comedy

KEARNEY – Sometime in the future’s past, a graduate student in marine biology lures a journalism student to his subterranean research lab with an online personal ad that promises a casual “no strings attached” encounter.

However, fearing the apocalypse is close at hand, their date quickly takes on evolutionary significance with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance. Will an “intensely significant coupling” lead to another big bang? Or is mankind’s fate in the hands of someone watching from outside the fishbowl?

University Theatre at Kearney is presenting “boom,” a quirky, apocalyptic, not-so-romantic comedy that offers a unique perspective on the nature of life, survival and reproduction. Performances of the Peter Sinn Nachtrieb play are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Studio Theatre inside the Fine Arts Building on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus.

The production is for mature audiences only.

General admission tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for seniors and youths ages 13-18; $7 per person for groups of 10 or more; and free for UNK students with a valid ID. The UNK Theatre Box Office is open noon to 5 p.m. weekdays and one hour prior to each performance. All ticket purchases are payable by cash or check only. For reservations, call 308-865-8417 or email boxoffice@unk.edu.
