The admission deadline is approaching for a new cohort of nursing students in Kearney.
The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing Kearney Division is now accepting applications for its second cohort of nursing students who will begin classes in January. The priority deadline is July 1, and more information can be found on the UNMC College of Nursing website.
The Kearney Division accepted its first cohort of January nursing students in 2024. The new cohort includes room for 36 students, up from the 13 students admitted in January 2024.
Cathrin Carithers, assistant dean for the Kearney Division, said the twice-a-year enrollment has been a success, and she is excited to welcome a new group of students in January, who will be scheduled to graduate December 2026, to address the rural health care workforce.
“We’ve seen that these January admissions create opportunity for students who might otherwise have to wait to start school in the fall, and this is an excellent way to increase our admissions,” Carithers said. “Our community partners in the Kearney area have shown that they see a need for more nurses, and we are excited to help address that need.”
