Live music and salsa dancing highlight UNK’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

UNK’s Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion and the Hispanic Student Association (HSA) hosted their annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration Tuesday night at the Nebraskan Student Union.

The event featured salsa dance lessons led by Cuban-born HSA Vice President Maria Karla Garcia Quintana and live music performed by the Afro-Cuban jazz orchestra Andy William and the Nebraska All Stars. Garcia Quintana also read a statement by Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts and HSA President Temo Molina read U.S. President Joe Biden’s Hispanic Heritage Month proclamation.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 to recognize the contributions of more than 60 million Hispanic Americans, Latinos and Latinas in the U.S.
