UNK’s Black Student Association (BSA) hosted a Black History Month celebration Tuesday at the student union with food, music, dancing, prizes and a keynote address from Sharon Obasi, associate professor of family science and research compliance director. BSA President Isaiah Mahone read U.S. President Joe Biden’s Black History Month proclamation and joined BSA Vice President Esther Uma and member Victoria Nimneh in a performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Luis Olivas, assistant director of the Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion, said the event was a showcase of Black excellence and beauty.
