Regent Bob Phares of North Platte, representing District 7 on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents, assumed the role of chairman of the board Friday after serving as vice chairman in 2021.
Regent Tim Clare of Lincoln, representing District 1, was elected vice chairman of the board. Clare will become chair in 2023 in accordance with board policy.
Phares was appointed to the Board of Regents in 2006 and served as chairman in 2010 and 2015. He is a former mayor of North Platte and was president and owner of Phares Financial Services Inc., a financial planning and insurance firm. Phares has served as board chairman of the North Platte Chamber of Commerce and president of the North Platte Rotary Club. He earned a degree in business administration from Kearney State College, now the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and is a recipient of UNK’s Distinguished Service and Outstanding Alumni awards.
Clare is a partner at Rembolt Ludtke law firm in Lincoln. He was elected to the Board of Regents in 2008. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and law degree from Creighton University.
