The UNK Department of English is hosting a National Day on Writing event 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20.
Using colored paper and markers available at tables set up in front of the Nebraskan Student Union, UNK students and employees are encouraged to participate by sharing a message about writing and what it means to them.
“There are no right or wrong answers. We want people’s creativity and thoughtfulness toward literacy to shine through,” said UNK English lecturer Jay Lee.
Event organizers will share photos of the participants and their responses on the Department of English social media accounts using the hashtags #WhyIWrite and #BeBlueBeGold. The written responses will also be displayed inside Thomas Hall.
An initiative of the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Day on Writing was established in 2009 to celebrate literacy and emphasize the role of writing in everyday life.
