The College of Arts and Sciences Outreach Committee hosted a memorial tree dedication ceremony Wednesday afternoon in the green space between Copeland Hall and the Memorial Student Affairs Building.
The event honored the lives of students who died while enrolled at UNK.
Chancellor Doug Kristensen dedicated the memorial tree and plaque, and current UNK students read the names of deceased students.
Dean of Student Affairs Gilbert Hinga, College of Arts and Sciences Dean Ryan Teten and political science professor Claude Louishomme also spoke during the ceremony. The UNK Choraleers and music faculty performed vocal and flute pieces, respectively. The ceremony concluded with “Taps” and a ringing of the Bell Tower.
