The University of Nebraska at Kearney will be closed and classes canceled Wednesday (Dec. 5) to observe the National Day of Mourning for President George H.W. Bush, as directed by University of Nebraska President Hank Bounds.
UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen said all University of Nebraska campuses will implement the closing, following NU policy. All state buildings will be closed and state employees will be granted a day of leave.
Student activities are curtailed this week as traditional Dead Week, with Finals Week occurring next week. There are no Loper Athletics contests scheduled; any student activities scheduled will be rescheduled or canceled.
“Per our historical practice when a former U.S. President passes, I hereby grant all regular employees administrative leave for Wednesday, Dec. 5,” Bounds said in a memo today. “Designated essential personnel should continue to report, and will be compensated as established by campus payroll policies and procedures.”
