Sharie Waller, business manager in UNK’s Division of Facilities Management and Planning, received the University of Nebraska Board of Regents KUDOS award April 7.
KUDOS awards recognize university staff for their professional expertise, service and “superior dedication” to UNK and University of Nebraska. It is the university’s top staff award.
Waller has been a member of the UNK staff since 2001. She began her UNK career as facilities services coordinator, served as maintenance planner from 2006-09, and was promoted to her current position in November 2009.
Waller’s responsibilities include oversight of Central Stores operations; mechanics; payroll and accounts payable; work order and service desk tasks; UNK motor pool; and campus vehicle titles, licensing and insurance.
She was also recognized for her work in managing space and building reservations, a task that often makes her the first contact at the university and gives people their first impression of UNK.
“I honestly don’t feel that any one person here could do their job effectively without support from others,” Waller says. “I’m proud and grateful every day when I see how the staff help each other, even when it ‘isn’t their job.’”
She also manages construction budgets and related purchases, and submits reports to Central Administration and other agencies as required, responsibilities important to completing projects on time and within budget limits.
Director of Facilities Management and Planning Lee McQueen said Sharie is a dedicated professional who is focused on customer service. “She is a team player who knows how to listen to customers. She expects much of herself and leads by example.”
Waller is a UNK graduate, as is her oldest son, Zac. Her son, Jake, is a freshman at UNK.
Waller was recognized and given the KUDOS award at the Board of Regents meeting, which was attended by UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen, NU President Hank Bounds, Vice Chancellor of Business and Finance Jon Watts, and her husband, Jerry.
