KEARNEY – The Xi Phi chapter of Mortar Board at the University of Nebraska Kearney is accepting applications for new members.
Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service. New members will be involved in the chapter during the 2016-17 school year.
Student interested in applying for membership can receive more information and access to the application online at mortarboardunk.blogspot.com. Applications are being accepted until Jan. 29, 2016.
Students applying for memberships must complete 88 credit hours by May 2016, have at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA and be a full-time student. Selection criteria includes scholarship and research, campus involvement and level of leadership and service.

The Xi Phi Chapter of Mortar Board was chartered at UNK in 1988 and is one of 230 chapters nationwide. Nearly 500 individuals have been selected as collegiate and honorary members of the UNK chapter.
UNK’s chapter has a long history of excellence. The chapter has received the Ruth Weimer Mount Chapter Excellence Award, which recognizes the top Mortar Board chapter in the country. UNK also has been given the prestigious Golden Torch Award 15 of the past 16 years, as well as numerous Project Excellence awards.
Among projects that Mortar Board has been involved with: Last Lecture Series, True Blue Game Days, Fuel Around the Fountain, Reading is Leading, Freshman & Sophomore Recognition Event, Faculty Appreciation Dinner, Campus Clean-Up, Habitat for Humanity, A Million Thanks Letter Writing Campaign to Veterans and Active Duty Military, and Adopt-a-Family.
