KEARNEY – The University Theatre at Kearney will present “Die Fledermaus” Dec. 4-6 at the Miriam Drake Theatre at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
“Die Fledermaus,” composed by Johann Strauss II, is a fast-moving operetta that is based on one friend playing a huge practical joke on another.Falke is humiliated by being left on a park bench dressed in a bat costume overnight by his friend Eisenstein. Falke plots his revenge on Eisenstein at a huge gala where he is tricked into flirting with his own disguised wife and all kinds of mayhem ensues.
“This is the perfect first opera for a novice, as it is framed in farce, has beautiful costumes from the 1870s, features dance, visual art in the set and lighting, and very talented UNK student singers and actors,” said Janice Fronczak, theatre professor and director.
The performance is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday (Dec. 4 and 5) and at 2 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 6).
