KEARNEY – Fall enrollment at University of Nebraska at Kearney remains above 7,000 for the third straight year, at 7,052.
This is down slightly from fall 2012’s 7,199 – a difference of 147.
UNK this fall sees a 6 percent increase over 2012 in part-time undergraduate students and a 15.2 percent increase in full-time graduate students.
UNK’s College of Education continued to show the strongest growth, at 0.9 percent increase, to 1,289 students.
Student credit hours are up 8.2 percent over last year for part-time undergraduate students and 12.6 percent for full-time graduate students.
These numbers follow national trends reflecting different ways students are accessing college coursework, changing demographics and reflecting the economy, said Dusty Newton, UNK director of admissions.
“Our student body continues to become more diverse and international,” Newton said. “For the first time ever we have enrollment from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Our increase in students from Brazil is exciting. Last year we had one student from Brazil and this year we have 25.”
UNK surpassed the 7,000 mark again in fall 2011 following more than a decade ranging from 6,379 (2003) to 6,849 (1998). The largest class of spring graduates and undergraduates in school history graduated in May – 713; with December 2012 graduates numbering 418. New first-time freshmen this fall number 1,022. Undergraduate transfer students number 342.
Numbers of graduate students were down 0.1 percent to 1,550 and total undergraduate “head count” is 5,502, a 2.6 percent decrease over last fall.
