Kearney, Neb., May 15, 2013 – The Museum of Nebraska Art has coordinated with artists and art instructors to hold a series of summer classes from May 29 to Aug. 20.
The classes are open to the public. Some are geared to children ages 6 to 8, or older children and teens, while others will appeal to adults. The fee for the classes is non-refundable after the classes start, and the cost of each class varies depending on the materials that are required.
Each class will be dramatically different from the next, including 2-D and 3-D art projects. Classes include paper collage, painting, pastel drawing and even sculpture.
May 29 – “Crazy Cow Collages” designed especially for children ages 6 to 8. The fee is $30 per person for MONA members or $35 for non-members. The class will be led by Kelley Dachtler, MONA director of educational programming, from 10-11:30 a.m.
June 13 – “Fundamentals of Drawing,” from 1-4 p.m. This class is for ages 13 to 18, and the fee is $30 for members or $35 for non-members. The class will be led by Chris Dolan, a certified art teacher.
June 25 – art specialist Susan Hart will lead “Painting Pochades” from 10 a.m. to noon. The class, for children ages 8 to 12, is $35 for members or $40 for non-members.
July 9-10 – “Free-Form Sculptures” will be led by Dolan from 1-2:30 p.m. The class is for youths age 12 to 15. The fee is $45 for members or $50 for non-members.
July 13 – “Tiny Treasure Boxes” will be led by Hart from 1-3 p.m. This class, for adults, costs $30 for members or $35 for non-members.
Aug. 3 – “Collages and Coffee,” 1-4 p.m. The class will be led by Hart and is for adults. The fee is $40 for members or $45 for non-members.
Aug. 6, 13 and 20 – “Perfecting Pastels,” from 2-4 p.m. The fee is $70 for members or $79 for non-members. The class, for adults, will be led by artist Virginia Wattles.
