Mortar Board will host a presentation by John Lakey, a former UNK administrator, for the “Last Lecture Series” on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Copeland Hall, Room 142.
Lakey, who retired in December, will share his insights on how UNK has matured through the years and adapted to the changes taking place outside the world of the university.
His lecture, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the UNK Mortar Board. Refreshments will be provided after the lecture.
“The Last Lecture Series was created to bring together UNK students, faculty and the public to reflect upon the most important aspects of life that are often not discussed during typical classroom lectures,” said Dr. Amber Messersmith, Mortar Board senior adviser. “The lecture is prepared as if it were the individual’s last opportunity to speak to a group of students to provide advice and knowledge he or she feels is necessary for them to hear.”
The Last Lecture Series is a well-established Mortar Board tradition on the UNK campus. Every year, Mortar Board members nominate a faculty or staff member for the honor of delivering his or her “last lecture.” Students nominate professors or staff who have had an impact in or out of the classroom. The members then vote to select a speaker from among the nominees.
