The Chicago-based contemporary saxophone ensemble Anubis Quartet will perform Thursday, Jan. 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Nebraska at Kearney Fine Arts Recital Hall.

The performance, which is free and open to the public, will include “Intercepting a Shivery Light,” “Blissing Out” and “Butchered and Consumed by the Facets of Extension.” All three selections were written in 2012.

According to the quartet’s website, the ensemble is “…dedicated to reshaping the saxophone quartet genre and reconceptualizing the way listeners experience the instrument through contemporary music. The quartet acts as a performer, presenter and educator through hands-on collaboration with composers, inventive programming and curating.”

The quartet is on campus as part of 2013 Saxophone Madness, an annual event open to all high school and junior high saxophonists and teachers. The group will present a guest artist master class beginning at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18.

Members of the Anubus Quartet include Allison Balcetis, Ryan Muncy, Sean Patayanikorn and David Wegehaupt. Balcetis is an Omaha native.

Saxophone Madness, which is directed by Dr. David Nabb, UNK professor of music, is supported by the Nebraska Arts Council and Nebraska Cultural Endowment, the UNK One-handed Woodwinds Program and the UNK Faculty Senate Artists and Lecturers Committee.
