The University of Nebraska at Kearney Campus Kitchen chapter is in need of more canned foods, especially canned fruit, to provide upcoming meals for the Kearney community, according to Jon Watts, UNK assistant director of Business Services.

Those wishing to donate canned fruit, or other packaged foods, can bring their donations to Founders Hall, Room 119, on the campus. Founders Hall is located at 2504 Ninth Ave. Also, before planetarium shows, a collection box for canned and packaged foods is located just outside the planetarium in Bruner Hall of Science.

This year alone, UNK student volunteers will provide more than 2,200 meals to food insecure clients in the Kearney area.

Campus Kitchen receives food donations from the campus cafeteria, student organizations, local churches, and businesses and area community members. With these donations, UNK students prepare healthy meals to deliver to agency or church-referred individual families in the area.

The Campus Kitchen organization is open to all UNK students, faculty and staff, and community members. Meetings are held Tuesdays from 6 – 8 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m., on the second floor of the Nebraskan Student Union in the UNK Dining Service kitchen area.
