University of Nebraska at Kearney officials today announced the appointment of Dr. Kenya Taylor to the position of associate vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs.

Dr. Charles Bicak, UNK senior vice chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, made the announcement to the campus this afternoon. Dr. Taylor will continue with her responsibilities as dean of Graduate Studies and Research. Her appointment is contingent on approval by the University of Nebraska Board of Regents.

“This (appointment) restores a position that had been in place for several years on our campus,” Dr. Bicak said. “Dr. Taylor’s new alignment within Academic and Student Affairs will enhance our capabilities in moving the academic agenda forward at UNK. She brings a wealth of experience to this position.”

Dr. Taylor holds B.A. and M.S. degrees from Baylor University and the Ed.D. from the University of Tennessee. Before coming to UNK in 1996, she served on the faculty in the Department of Communication Disorders at Texas Christian University and arrived on the UNK campus in 1996 as a faculty member in the Department of Communication Disorders. She served as chair of the department for six years before her appointment as dean for Graduate Studies and Research in 2006.

Dr. Taylor will serve as the chief assistant to the SVCASA and will be the primary adviser on academic matters that routinely affect more than one college. As such, she will be engaged in the coordination of special initiatives, strategic planning, North Central Association Accreditation, academic policy and responsibilities as otherwise designated. There will be no change in the reporting structure or in the responsibilities of others within Academic and Student Affairs.
