JAZZ-ROCK ENSEMBLE IN CONCERT SUNDAY, APRIL 17, AT UNK

Big band music from the swing era to newer charts will be featured during the University of Nebraska at Kearney spring Jazz-Rock Ensemble concert on Sunday, April 17.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall, located in the UNK Fine Arts Building.

According to Dr. Jim Payne, Jazz-Rock Ensemble director, the group will perform jazz pieces styled in several types of swing, Latin, rock, jazz rock fusion, contemporary jazz, blues, hip-hop, funk and reggae. Some of the music on the program was performed on the ensemble’s recent concert tour. The concert will also showcase student soloists on the piano, guitar, trumpet, trombone, drums, and alto and tenor saxophones.

In addition to the student soloists, Dr. Payne will perform the trumpet solo made famous by Maynard Ferguson in his well-known arrangement of the theme to the movie “Rocky.”

Membership in the Jazz-Rock Ensemble is by audition only. Members are listed below, alphabetically by hometown, along with their respective instruments:
