The best college band students from across the state, including nine University of Nebraska at Kearney students, are performing in the Nebraska Intercollegiate Band this week.
The Nebraska Intercollegiate Band is performing for the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association Convention taking place this week in Lincoln. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be Friday at 8 p.m. in the Kimball Recital Hall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The band is directed by award-winning composer Dr. Joel Puckett. Under his direction, the band will perform the world premiere of “Stolen,” a piece Dr. Puckett composed specifically for the event. Dr. Puckett is a professor of music theory at The Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
Dr. Duane Bierman, UNK professor of music, said of the UNK students: “These nine students are among the best instrumentalists at UNK, and are entirely deserving of this opportunity to play in a band of students from all colleges and universities in the state.”
