UNK– The Frank House will present “Violins in Concert” featuring high school students Emelie Berke and Mary Spencer on Saturday, May 8, at 1:30 p.m.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of the “Saturdays at the Frank House” series of presentations. The Frank House is located on the University of Nebraska at Kearney West Campus.
“The Frank House provides an intimate environment for musicians to perform,” said Dr. Ting-Lan Chen, UNK music and performing arts associate professor. “The concert program in this joint recital presents a wide spectrum of styles to showcase the beauty of violin playing from the Baroque period to the 20th century, from lyrical, singing character pieces to virtuosic technical display and from solo to ensemble performance.”
Berke, a sophomore from Kearney, and Spencer, a junior from Gibbon, are both members of the Kearney Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Chen will accompany the students.
Selections being performed will include “Allegro in D Major” by Arcangelo Corelli, “Air Varie on a theme by Rossini” and “Air Varie on a theme by Weigl” by Charles Dancla, “Four Romantic Pieces for Violin & Piano” in Allegro moderato by Antonin Dvorak, “Madrigale in D Major” by Achille Simonetti, “Perpetuum mobile in D minor” by Ottokar Novacek and “Concerto for Two Violins in A minor” in Allegro by Antonio Vivaldi.
