UNK– Students at the University of Nebraska at Kearney will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from more than 40 employers and graduate schools at the annual UNK Spring Career Fair on Wednesday, Feb. 24,

Employers will range from retailers, including The Buckle, to governmental agencies such as the Department of Health and Human Services and nonprofit organizations, including the Peace Corps. The event, which is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., will take place on the second floor of the Nebraskan Student Union.

Potential employers will be joined by a variety of graduate schools attending the fair with information for students who want to do advanced study. Among the graduate schools attending will be the Universities of Nebraska at Kearney and Lincoln, Creighton University and Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles, Calif.

“Students can prepare for the career fair by attending ‘Your Future and Our Career Fair’ program,” said Mary Daake, UNK director of Academic and Career Services. The event is set for 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, in Copeland Hall Room #133.

“Students can either drop-off or e-mail their resumes to the Career Services office for a critique and to schedule a video-taped practice interview,” Daake said, adding that the Career Services Web site has tips for individuals preparing for the career fair and the interview experience.

“These tips cover a wide range of topics–from appropriate interview attire and how to prepare for the interview to how to structure a ‘Thank you’ note after an interview,” she said. “Students who are seriously looking for interview opportunities should dress in attire appropriate for an interview and be prepared to interview on the spot. It is also suggested that students have several copies of their resume with them when they attend the fair.”

More information concerning the event, and the companies and schools attending, can be found at the Career Services Web site, http://careers.unk.edu.
